Description
A Multi Skilled Engineer is sought by an award-winning food packaging plant based in Bilston. They are a privately owned company who supply numerous sectors including foodservice, retail, wholesale and catering, both in the UK and abroad.
Job Purpose: To rectify and eliminate equipment faults and machine down time and to carry out improvements to equipment, working alongside Production and Technical functions to maintain quality, hygiene, Health and Safety and productivity standards.
The Multi Skilled Engineer will be responsible for:
- Delivering electrical and mechanical planned and reactive maintenance of site machinery and production equipment
- Repairing machines and electrical components, provide support when it comes to usage of machines and electrical components
- Fault finding and continuous improvement projects resolving plant issues and breakdowns to ensure downtime is kept to a minimum
- A logical approach to problem solving, fast paced decision-making use of your technical background whilst also ensuring continuous availability across the business.
- To develop Risk Assessments and Method Statements for tasks carried out within the Engineering team
- To lead by example, working in a safe manner and promoting the Company Health and Safety Rules and Procedures
The successful Multi Skilled Shift Engineer with possess the following skills:
- To undertake planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance activities with due consideration for safe plant operations and product quality tasks without supervision
- To develop and enhance maintenance systems and procedures
- Implement minor or small electrical installation works
- Diagnose faults effectively and make good whenever possible
- Complete and submit PPM and Reactive task paperwork accurately and timeously
- Undertake Health and Safety, Technical, Toolbox Talk and other training as required
- Communicate with both colleagues and Managers to keep them informed of any delays, and working closely with production to achieve production targets
- Conduct effective hand over to oncoming Engineers and attend the change over meetings
- Provide prompt response to breakdowns and resolve the issue as quickly as possible
- To undertake a proactive approach in ensuring all plant and equipment is fully operational and fit for purpose
- Ensure all parts are booked out correctly and recorded as necessary
- To lead any installation of electrical components and infrastructure, ensuring that sign offs, Risk Assessments and Method Statements are in place
- Agree job sheets on a daily basis
- To carry out various tasks to include but are not exclusive to; plant start up, equipment performance monitoring, plant shut down
- Recommend replacement of old or faulty electrical components or fittings to management
- To install, maintain and carry out improvements to equipment in the factory whilst working closely with other departments
- Ensure Maintenance Connection is up to date including proposed corrective actions and that all actions are recorded in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Help the Company reduce energy costs
- Supervise electrical works when projects are undertaken
- To develop and review Risk Assessments and Method Statements
- Complete and maintain accurate, timely documentation and records as required by the Company
- To attend meetings and when required
- To be aware of, understand and adhere to environmental procedures, food safety & quality procedures including the correct wearing of all PPE
- To be aware of, understand and adhere to food safety and quality procedures
Essential skills:
- Time served Engineer with proven experience working as Multi Skilled Engineer in the food or FMCG industry
- Multi skilled Technical aptitude
- Mechanical aptitude
- Industry recognised electrical qualification – HNC or equivalent
- Certified to NICIEC 17th Edition
- Can carry out certified Testing and Inspection to comply with H&S regulation with regards to Electrical connections
- Be able to fault find in both electrical and mechanical
- Diagnose faults using complex circuit drawings
- Welding/fabrication
- Air and pneumatics trained
- Good organisation and planning skills
- Experience in fault finding and programming invertors and various PLC’s
- Can demonstrate experience in various site systems, CCTV, Access controls, SCADA, machine specific control systems
- An awareness of HACCP, PUWER, LOLER and COSSH
- Be flexible in approach to shift cover and over busy trading periods
- Good team player
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated, work with own initiative, hardworking, and organised
- Ability to work under pressure
- Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines, multi-tasking
- Make quick and accurate decisions
Desirable skills:
- Experience in working in the food industry – especially Poultry processing
- Experience in leading engineering teams
- Approved Health & Safety training certificate/qualification
Benefits:
Basic salary: to £44k plus overtime
Hours on work 42 hours per week over the year
Shift pattern: 2 days, 2 nights 4 days off
