Our client Viridor is one of the UK’s leading Recycling and Resource Management Companies and part of the FTSE 250 Pennon Group. To continue their strategy and complement the demand for recycling and renewable energy, they are now at an exciting phase with their newly built state-of-the-art recycling and sustainable waste management facility in Glasgow.

Role

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Engineering and Maintenance Manager is a key player in maximising the availability, reliability and throughput targets for the Company’s recycling and power generation assets. You will be responsible for delivering a rigorous, fully costed and technically supported regime of Planned Preventive Maintenance. 

With a small dedicated team of engineers and technicians and specialist contractors, you will develop close working relationships with OEM and outside professional engineering support staff, ensuring supplier contract terms are met to deliver value for money across a wide range of measures such as; consumables, warranty replacements, engine efficiency, capex and opex budgets, quality of work and call-out response times. With overall responsibility for helping set capex and revenue cost budgets, you will propose and manage the annual and five-year overhaul programs working closely with Finance, Operations and senior management.

Keys responsibilities:

  • Promote the Company’s Zero Harm regime throughout the business.
  • Support and comply with Company policies and procedures.
  • Lead weekly planning resource management meetings; to report on and communicate the planned maintenance programs, proactive and reactive work-streams, problem-solving, root cause investigations and findings.
  • Communicate the availability of surplus equipment to provide maximum availability and minimise downtime.
  • Develop close ties with external contractors and OEM providers.
  • Direct management of the Maintenance and Overhaul Team, Technicians and all Contractors; staff selection, training & development, quality of workmanship, time management & cost control, scheduling & availability.
  • Establish individual parts tracking history to provide trend data on reliability, life of part, value for money statistics.
  • Work with suppliers to ensure the Company keeps abreast of industry and technical developments in design, use and maintenance procedures.
  • Work closely with the Finance Team in developing a new additional drying process and implications for output, annual maintenance and overhaul budget, compilation of the Capex budget, staff budgets.
  • Manage the program of emissions testing by 3rd parties to comply with Environmental Agency permits.
  • Compile technical and operational reports / procedures & undertake Root Cause Analysis of failures.

Person

The successful candidate will be an up-and-coming professional with a proven track record of managing a technical maintenance group, either within the Heavy Plant/Energy/Power sectors or a similar 24/7 production environment. This role will suit a dynamic innovative engineer who is not shy in stepping forward to take the lead in making a difference.

Key requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience of similar recycling, heavy plant, production process, energy generating equipment.
  • Of graduate calibre, qualified Mechanical/Electrical engineer.
  • Commitment to managing safe systems of work, designing and running successful PPM programs, time management and cost control.
  • Experience of managing and maintaining MMS.
  • Ability to operate in a climate of continuous change and improvement, in a highly  focused team.
  • Understanding of the contradictory pressures of maintaining 24/7 operations against a backdrop of realistic, but often tight, budget constraints.
  • First class planning and communications skills; able to liaise with internal and external parties.
  • Able to lead by example and motivate co-workers as part of a team.
