Our client is a global diversified technology and industrial leader serving customers in more than 150 countries. Due to a recent restructure they are now seeking to recruit a degree qualified Materials Planning / Logistics Manager to manage the day to day operational needs of a JIT, fast paced, 1st tier automotive company.

The Role:

The prime purpose of this position is to lead the Materials / Logistics Team to exceed the expectations of both their internal and external customers. As a key member of the Management Team, the Materials & Logistics Manager will be an integral team player who will be vital to the continuing success of the  JIT business operation. Your day to day duties will include:

  • Provide inspired leadership and safe day to day management to the Materials Team in line with the requirements
  • Effectively manage and optimise the supply chain, ensuring uninterrupted component delivery to the location through the provision of cost-effective, high quality service levels from the Supplier base
  • Establish and maintain effective systems and processes that encourage ownership and accountability
  • Ensure the Materials Team adhere to policy and procedures and complete all daily tasks in a timely, professional manner
  • Foster an embedded culture of continuous improvement within the Materials Team
  • Coordinate, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the communication process within the team and make improvements as necessary
  • Develop and nurture at both personal and departmental levels, excellent supplier and customer partnerships both internally and externally
  • Review schedules and broadcast for reasonableness, and highlight any constraints away from the declared production and supply constraints, ensuring supplier and production capacities are continuously monitored
  • Manage the appropriate monthly budgets, ever exploring opportunities to reduce spend on an ongoing basis and optimise the use of working capital investment
  • Seamless model phase out control ensuring minimal obsolescence within the supply chain, with robust data to ensure customer liability is in a presentable format and recouped accordingly
  • Seamless model launch with a Plan For Every Part (PFEP) from customer forecast through to physical production location and design
  • Provide accurate financial forecasting on all key measurable KPIs using SCM designated tools
  • Ability to investigate and where necessary, problem solve any abnormality within daily deliverables and deliver robust countermeasures

The successful Materials Planning & Logistics Manager will demonstrate:

  • Degree in Business, Engineering, Manufacturing or similar (or qualified by experience)
  • Experience in automotive / JIT manufacturing is highly beneficial
  • Experience of people management, development and leadership
  • Well experienced in continuous improvement activities
  • Good interpersonal skills to foster teamwork and achieve business objectives
  • Clear, concise and appropriate communication style both written and verbal
  • Ability to recognise and respond to customer expectations with an energetic drive for results
  • Data driven, analytical and methodical demonstrating innovation in decision making and problem solving
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to work with the minimum of supervision using own initiative
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office

Desirable skills:

  • Good working knowledge of an MRP system
  • A working knowledge of SAP & MFG Pro would be advantageous but not necessary

  • Working days full-time Monday to Friday (with occasional weekends as required)
