Our client, Energy Development Limited (UK) is part of Energy Development Inc. an Australian based (ASX listed) clean and remote energy company. “Its landfill and coal gas plants in Australia, the US, UK and Greece abate 11 million tonnes a year of carbon dioxide, which would be the equivalent of taking three million cars off the road!” The UK business operates and manages 10 landfill sites powering reciprocating gas generators producing a high-power output.

Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a hands-on Procurement and Contracts Manager who has brings strong process, planning and relationship management expertise with suppliers and customers. An understanding for an engineering, energy or operational multi-site business would be beneficial but not essential as the experience and person fit are critical too. Your key objective will be to provide and manage an effective procurement process and function whilst providing governance, advice, guidance and training to colleagues engaging in procurement activity and ensure that suppliers are meeting expectations and compliance obligations. You will be responsible for delivering a competitive commercial framework for the operation and maintenance of the Company’s fleet of circa 60 LFG energy engines through the production of initial contract documentation, tender preparation, analysis, evaluation and negotiation of engineering contracts. You will establish robust mechanisms for the control and management of all of their commercial supply contracts including evaluating and implementing metrics such as supplier performance management.

  • Manage and lead the UK’s full range of procurement activities and strategic sourcing in compliance with its policies and procedures.
  • Provide support to the business on all procurement activities and provide an element of support on reviewing supplier contracts by assessing possible better value or alternative suppliers.
  • Ensure that arrangements are in place for effective contract management. Identify and manage risks that may arise through the operation of the contract and suggest and implement robust financial and operational controls.
  • Working with Operational management to develop an inventory-management strategy which maximises availability of key parts and long-lead items to deliver optimum generator uptime.
  • Develop and implement robust and effective policies, procedures and systems to support the operational effectiveness in relation to procurement.
  • Prepare and implement a guide for internal process and training on procurement and contract management.
  • Work with Group procurement on global supply agreements for new equipment or replacement programs.
  • Advise UK Senior Management team on contract risk items within the business.

Person

We are searching for and up and coming hands on procurement leader who has solid communication, people management and leadership skills and the appetite to get best value and make a difference. The right individual will be experienced in commercial contract procurement and management of risk. This is very much a hands-on role; as such you will be expected to spend a substantial time in the field to maximise contractor performance.

  • Of Graduate calibre and either qualified or working towards MCIPS desirable not essential.
  • Lean or Six Sigma recognised would be an added benefit
  • Expertise in commercial contract procurement and leading activities and management of risk
  • First class relationship management and sharp negotiating skills
  • Understanding of the supply market to deliver operational performance on a 24/7 basis
  • Well established change management skills and credentials for driving business improvement
