Our client, Viridor is one of the UK’s leading recycling, renewable energy and waste management companies. Part of the FTSE 250 Pennon Group, Viridor puts waste into action, transforming municipal and commercial waste streams into high quality recyclables, raw materials and energy. A high profile and exciting opportunity has emerged at one of the most sophisticated advanced recycling waste treatment (RWT) in the UK, The £28 million facility “identifies and removes value materials” from around c190,000 tonnes of residual waste from five Scottish councils with any remaining non-recyclable material sent to Viridor’s Dunbar Energy from Waste (ERF) plant. Viridor Bargeddie is the main processing plant for Clyde Valley. Various site developments have taken place over the past few years and the site also provides a transfer station, special waste service to the commercial market and a Material Recovery plant (MRF), The Bargeddie Hub plays a crucial role in delivering Scotland’s ambition to achieve a zero-waste, circular economy.


As a qualified and recognised effective operational leader, you will have responsibility for managing and leading the safe operation of the complete Bargeddie facility. This is a rare and unique development opportunity for the right individual who can influence the way the operations thinks by providing effective management and leadership, strategic and commercial thinking, developing efficiencies whilst ensuring plant optimisation and exceeding business plans and financial results.

  • Set a personal example about Health & Safety. Personally, lead the embedding and development of a positive safety culture at all levels across your area of responsibility.
  • Lead and manage the Bargeddie management team ensuring the efficient, compliant and profitable operation of the site. This includes Production management, Quality, Health and Safety, Maintenance, Administration, plus business support from Finance and HR.
  • Optimise outputs from the whole facility including balancing cost against revenue using key performance indicators (KPIs) and best practice working.
  • Manage, via Site Team, the day to day operation of the function ensuring that all Health and Safety, Environmental, , Waste Management Licence, Personnel and other legislation is adhered to.   
  • Lead by example to build an engaged workforce ensuring there are adequate levels of skills, expertise and resource in the facility through effective man-power planning, performance management, talent reviews and succession plans.
  • Management of the quality operations including output specification controls for all processed commodities at the facility.  Ensuring compliance Off-Taker requirements and shipping requirements, and managed.
  • Ensure the compilation of relevant financial information for setting budgets and forecasting as required.  To provide financial information and reports to ensure the efficient running of the MRF.
  • To keep informed of local developments and industry developments, technological advances and operational practices and use these where appropriate to maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of the operational facility.

The ideal candidate will bring;

  • Demonstrable strong track record of success in operational management either from Waste/Recycling, FMCG production/manufacturing or relative process engineering environment where productivity, process, quality and safety are of paramount importance. 
  • Common sense and an inquisitive and logical mind-set will hold you in good stead.
  • IOSH/NEBOSH qualified would be an added benefit.
  • Experience of Six Sigma/Lean methodologies would be beneficial.
  • Adept Interpersonal skills with the ability to persuade influence and listen to others.
  • Enthusiastic and flexible group player with high expectations of self and others.
  • Excellent coaching skills and the ability to develop others.
  • Able to work under pressure, on own initiative and constantly seek to improve.
