Our client, Viridor, is one of the UK’s leading waste management companies and part of the FTSE 250 Pennon Group. They focus on putting waste into action by transforming it into high quality recyclables, raw materials and energy.  With this activity they are making a substantial contribution to improving both their customer’s and the UK’s resource efficiency.  “Gone is the traditional waste collection and disposal company, and in its place is a progressive and innovative recycling and resource management operation”.

To support this evolution we are keen to identify an up and coming operational and commercial leader for their state-of-the-art Plastics Recycling Facility (PRF). This is one of the most technologically advanced plastics recycling and sorting plants in the UK. This is one of the only facilities in the UK with this cutting edge technology, with an installed capacity of 85,000 tonnes per annum. “One recycled plastic bottle can light a 60 watt bulb for 6 hours!”


This is a fully encompassing business opportunity and a recognised high profile and strategic operation for Viridor. We are searching for the best talent to support their growth and continue their operational excellence within this sector. Key accountabilities will include:

  • As part of the management team support the site development and identify and lead the optimisation opportunities within this strategic facility.
  • To manage the commercial element of the business, ensuring all activities are closely analysed and recorded, to ensure you are able to clearly justify any decision made.
  • To manage the operational activities of the production staff and labour resources efficiently and effectively and to deal with all personnel issues in line with Company Policies and Procedures.
  • Ensure all material delivered to or dispatched from site meets the relevant standards, is fit for purpose and is done so in accordance with Site Permits, Working Plans and Company Procedures.
  • Lead the technical maintenance and quality team to optimise process equipment performance, uptime, and quality of outputs.
  • Compilation and agreement of site budgets, targets and forecasts, using regional finance support to ensure transparency and regular feedback on key issues and profit improvement initiatives.
  • Manage and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders, industry experts and external parties ensuring a professional, positive and integral brand is maintained.


This is a rare opportunity to contribute within this highly respected and innovative recycling and resource management company. It will draw upon your process, profit and people excellence including commercial drive. Excellent leadership will be required as you will cover all commercial and financial aspects of the operation, facility management including life cycle costs, organisational and planning challenges, as well as process engineering and optimisation techniques.

We are searching for a talented professional with an aptitude for developing and optimising a Hi-Tech facility. Whilst recycling and resource management experience would be an advantage it is not critical, as we believe someone with a Leadership/Management demonstrable track record in production process management, process engineering or quality systems could bring a new dimension of thinking to the business.  Common sense, an inquisitive mind-set and excellent interpersonal skills with good technology expertise will hold you in good stead.

  • Resilient and self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and on own initiative.
  • Proven ability to deliver improvements in all areas of responsibility.
  • Proven coaching skills and the ability to develop others.
  • Of Graduate calibre and added benefit if you have COTC, NEBOSH and Six Sigma green belt accreditation.
  • A minimum of 2 years of successfully managing and leading an operational team within a commercial and manufacturing/production, process environment or comparable.
